My market is not online! Really???

The following is yet another question from the recent survey I conducted.

“If I want to increase market awareness what would I do? I am a herbalist and live in South Africa my market doesn’t have access to internet.”

This is not an uncommon question. How do I increase market awareness? First, you must clearly define who your market is.

This is an area many people fail to put adequate effort into. The following questions will help you to gain more clarity on who your market is and is not.

Granted, you may not have answers to each question but this is a great starting point.

  • What is their age group?
  • Gender?
  • What is their family structure (number of children, extended family, etc.)?
  • What is their lifestyle like; active, sedentary, family oriented, spiritual, etc?
  • Where do they live?
  • What do they do for a living?
  • What keeps them awake at night?
  • How do they like to spend their spare time?
  • What motivates them?
  • What do they invest in specific to your offerings?
  • What are they likely to spend money on?
  • What is their annual income?
  • What methods do they prefer for online payment?
  • What type of web sites, forums and social networks do they visit?
  • How do they want their product delivered?

Regarding the concern of your market not having access to the Internet, this may be a very outdated belief. The beauty of the Internet is we have access to a global market. There are definitely people of every walk of life, with virtually every interest who do have access to the Internet.

Regarding reaching your market you can post articles in article directories, join and become active in forums your market “hangs out” in, gain visibility via social networking, utilize online radio, host teleseminars, to name just a few ways to gain visibility.

If you want to learn how to reach a global market via online radio check out my program on How to Build Your Platform and Revenues with Online Radio. Click here for more information.

You’re wasting money on information products if you’re doing this…

Countless dollars are wasted every day on information products. People may as well flush their money down the toilet.

You might be wondering why someone who makes their living selling information products would say this. Here’s why.

More people than not buy product after product in hopes that the “next one” will be the magic bullet. They may have the best intentions when they hit the “buy now” button, but in quick order they get sidetracked, bored or realize it actually takes time, effort and work to get a result.

Then you have those who invest in products and do all they can to gain a high return on investment. With focused attention they likely achieve great results.

I’ve had more than one occasion where someone contacts me to ask if my program will finally be the one program that “works.”

“I’ve gotten dozens of programs, spent thousands of dollars, listened to countless experts but nothing has worked.”

When I get this type of inquiry I tell the person NOT to buy my information. Not because the information doesn’t work, but because I’m not naïve enough to think I will be the exception to the rule. I know my programs will be yet another in their long line of “programs that don’t work.”

Over the last year I have invested tens of thousands of dollars in my professional development. I have bought programs that range in price from $10 to $1,000, $2,000 and more. When investing in the higher priced programs I make sure the expert selling it is the real deal.

I also make sure I’m willing to invest time and effort into learning the material and implementing what I learn.

Amazingly, not one of those programs “didn’t work.” As a matter of fact I made money from each and every one.

I’m not alone in these results. Every day men and women around the globe are making money online, but they don’t assume for a minute they don’t have to put effort into gaining results.

As we move into the New Year many entrepreneurs are planning for the coming year. In order to get the most out of 2012 try this:

Take  an honest inventory of all the programs you have purchased in the last year. List everything you can think of. Prioritize the items according to what is likely to give you the quickest return on investment.

Commit learning and implementation time to each in order to get a return on investment. As you see your revenues grow, commit a percentage of your income to future programs.

Only buy those programs that will truly benefit you. (And yes, there are programs we need to grow our business)

Decide which experts you want to learn from. Resist the temptation to buy from those who promise great returns with no effort whatsoever. This kind of promise is a red flag.

Each time you buy a program commit to putting time and effort into the material. After all, the more you expect to offer your market the more you will have to put into your own development.

When you follow this simple formula you will be amazed at the results that are possible.

10 Tips to Make 2012 Productive, Profitable and Blessed

This is the time of year many professionals set goals and resolutions for the coming year in hopes of making the coming year better than the year before.

Unfortunately, most goals are forgotten within a short period of time.

Often this is due to trying to do too much with too little.

Here are a few tips that will allow you to free up time and energy.

1. Evaluate online subscriptions to determine if you need to continue receiving them. If you don’t need them, unsubscribe. This one action will save you lots of time by eliminating unneeded emails and clutter in your inbox.

2. Use the first hour of your day to monetize your business. Most people dive right into emails first thing in the morning. This may likely be one of the greatest time wasters in that emails tend to get us sidetracked very quickly, sucking up valuable time and energy.

3. Write a “to do” list at the end of each workday for your priorities for the next day. Here is a short video that will show you how to fully prioritize your “to do” tasks as well as big projects

4.  Think about the next 12 months. Commit to one project per month that will generate revenue for your business. I personally like to develop at least one new information product per month. It can be a report, a homestudy course, a teleseminar, a webinar or an MP3. By committing to one project per month you will be amazed at the momentum you will gain as well as the revenue you can generate.

5.  Commit to investing a minimum of 3 – 5% of your revenues to your learning and studies. I personally invest about 10%. You cannot possibly be at the top of your game unless you are at the top of your knowledge base.

6.  Join a mastermind group that will stretch you personally and professionally. Mastermind groups are an essential part of your business growth.

7.  Determine all the tasks that must be accomplished to run your business. Once you have a list compiled determine what you can outsource and what you absolutely must do yourself. Make a commitment to outsource those tasks that are time suckers and would be much more cost effective for a virtual assistant to do than for you to take your time to accomplish. This will free up your time to do what is most valuable for you, your business and your customers and clients.

8.  Commit time for family and friends. So often we get caught up in growing our businesses to the detriment of our personal relationships. Granted, growing our business is important but the growth need not prevent us from enjoying family and friends. After all, when all is said and done it is our family and friends who are with us through thick and thin.

9.  Take personal care time. This is an area many entrepreneurs fail miserably. If you don’t take care of yourself you won’t be much good for very long.

10. Give thanks. Give thanks for all your blessings, both personal and professional. Give thanks  for the opportunity to express who you are by way of your business. What an amazing blessing it is for us to be able to create an incredible life as a result of a successful business. Not only can we live an extremely comfortable life, we are able to contribute time and money to our communities and organizations we believe in, we are also given the opportunity to leave our legacy.

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Are you getting your share of mailbox money?

Does your business allow for “mailbox money” and a lifestyle you love? If not, what would it take for you to create this?

Let’s start with the definition of mailbox money. This is money you receive in both your inbox and your physical mailbox.

I first heard the term from Mary Morrissey. When I heard her definition I realized I have had mailbox money for years.

Based on how you have your business set up you likely have a general idea of a minimum amount of money that will arrive daily whether it be a few hundred or a few thousand. Beyond the baseline, you likely won’t know from day to day how much cash will arrive. The reason? Multiple streams of revenue that fluctuates from day to day.

Multiple streams of revenue is exactly what it sounds like; money that comes from various sources. One way to create multiple streams of mailbox money is with information products; yours and those you sell for others.

The more information you have to offer that your market has an interest in the more revenue you can generate.

If you have no products of your own you can start by becoming an affiliate seller. Make sure whomever you sell for and whatever you make available you are selling an outstanding product or service you are proud to make available to your market. Never, ever, ever sell anything you can’t put your personal stamp of approval on.

Keep this in mind.
Don’t sell simply to make money. Making money simply for the sake of making money may be short lived. Start from the point of, “What would create the greatest value and truly serve my market?” When you think in terms of being of service, the money will follow for a long time to come.

You may have to test a few products to identify your markets’ sweet spot both with the type of information you are introducing and the price point.

Some online entrepreneurs are very successful by selling other experts’ products. Others prefer to create their own. Still others like a combination of the two.

I lean towards the latter.

If you’re planning on developing your own products now is the perfect time to begin. However, you will be well served to plan out what you introduce.

Follow these simple steps to move you in the right direction.

  1. Identify what your potential customers are interested in. A survey can help considerably in this area.
  2. Determine what knowledge you have that people would be willing to pay for.
  3. Decide the format for the information product; video, audio, MP3.
  4. Determine method of delivery; ClickBank, autoresponder, other.
  5. Determine method of payment; PayPal, credit card.
  6. Develop the product.
  7. Develop a landing page. If you’re not qualified you can find plenty of eager designers on www.elance.com or get a free or low cost template program.
  8. Market.

Obviously, there’s more detail I could cover, but this will be a great place to start. I can assure you that when you have several things to offer your market, both yours and those of other experts, you’ll get very used to watching your “mailbox money” arrive on a daily basis.

So much in fact, you will know what it means to have a lifestyle business.

What’s your experience with mailbox money? Are you getting your share?

I told her not to buy my program

Today I hosted a free teleseminar on how to make money with membership programs. The response was fabulous. With nearly 1,000 people registered for the event the energy was great.

I gave over an hour of nonstop content and an hour and a half of Q&A time. It was fabulous. The feedback from participants was amazing. Many couldn’t believe I shared so much in a free session.

As I often do, I invited those who felt they wanted me to work with them on a deeper level to join me for my four week mentoring course called – Short Term, High Profit Fixed Term Membership Programs.

Should I invest?
One woman asked me if I thought it was a good idea for her to invest in the program.  “I have bought lots of great programs but I never seem to apply the information. I have several excellent programs that I have not yet used. Do you think your program is for me?” this woman sincerely asked.

“No, I don’t. If you have not yet applied the information from the other programs you purchased you are likely going to repeat this behavior. I would suggest you NOT buy my program but rather dig into the other programs you have invested in and put those to work first. It’s up to you to change the pattern,” I responded.

Like many people, I invest in information from other experts. These investments can range from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. Regardless of what the cost I don’t let the information collect dust.

My standard practice is to put time aside to study the material. I make a commitment to a specific amount of time that will be used for application.

Recently I invested $2,000 in an information product.  I applied one idea and within 48 hours more than made my money back. Was it by luck this happened? Not at all. It was by application.

What’s your practice?
What do you do when you invest in a program? Do you apply the information or do you let it collect dust moving on to the next bright shiny object?

Personally, I would much rather someone NOT invest in my programs if they are not going to apply the information. Those who know me know I am very passionate about what I teach. My teachings are based on real life experience and a proven track record. I know the information works, but only when someone works it and has the right mindset.

Skills are only part of what will lead to success. Mindset, belief and intention are all aspects of success. Another key element is action. Without action you are literally spitting in the wind.

When Joe talks I listen
I just got off the phone with a dear friend who is incredibly successful in his industry. Joe will be the first to tell you not only do you have to invest in training, you have to have the right mindset and beliefs as well as the willingness to take action.

Coming from someone who is in the top 2 – 3% of income earners in his industry, in a 35 year happy marriage, in great physical and emotional health, with a strong religious and spiritual beliefs I would say Joe knows of what he speaks.

So what does this have to do with my upcoming training program? In a word; everything.

I sincerely want to work with those who are ready to take their business to the next level. I thrive on working with people who are willing to take the necessary steps to achieve an outcome.

If you are serious about wanting to start a profitable membership program I encourage you to check out what you will learn over a 28 day period.

In four short weeks you will be given all the information you need to put your own program in place.

There’s just one thing. The program has only 97 spots available AND the price goes up on Friday, July 1st.

Take action now to see if this is a great fit for the direction you are taking your business. There’s just one thing; if you plan to invest and do nothing, do both of us a favor and don’t get the program. It’s not for you.

On the other hand if you plan to apply the information, great! This program is for you. Click here to learn more.

What has been your experience with information products? Do you use the information or do they collect dust among all the other purchases you make? What is your advice to someone who wants to learn how to discipline themselves into a higher level of success?

Linkedin Groups – Getting the most out of your blog post

In the world of online marketing, social media and getting the word out about our products and services there are countless ways to optimize our efforts. Yet, many people do one or two things and wonder why they are not getting the best results.

Take blog postings. When you post something to your blog don’t rest on your laurels and finish your efforts there. You can maximize your efforts by letting your opt in subscribers know about the post (as long as it’s relevant to them), post the permalink on your FaceBook wall, post a note on FaceBook, tweet about it, and let your LinkedIn group members know about the post.

Not sure how to do the LinkedIn group process. Watch the video below to find out.

Quit being so afraid to give information away

Do you give free content away in the form of eBooks, eReports, teleseminars, MP3s and videos? If not, why not? If yes, is it high enough quality that you could justify charging for it?

An area there seems to be a lot of confusion (and hesitation) with is whether or not to give information away. I say, “Give it away! And give lots of it away!”

“But if I give it away, why would anyone pay me?” is the concern I most often here.

The fact is, you can give great content away and still generate incredible revenue streams.

I think most people would agree we live in a” try before you buy world.”

Many people want to “test the waters” with your information before making a substantial investment. Why not let them?

The problem does not always reside in giving the information away. The greatest challenge can be in asking for the sale. It’s amazing how many people are uncomfortable asking to get paid. Holly molly. If you don’t get paid, you don’t have a business.

Back to the topic of giving information away. Be willing to offer great content without getting paid. If you’ve done a great job of providing stellar information you win on many fronts.

You’ve gained the trust of the market. You’ve begun to build a nice relationship with whomever got your information. And you have created a win for the person who opted in.

Here’s a great example. The following 3 part video series is definitely one I could charge for. Even though I would make money with this I would much rather use this series as a way to introduce potential customers and clients to my information.

Why not see for yourself what I mean. Simply opt in to begin receiving the information right away.

Fair warning though. This is more than a 3 minute video series. Be sure to put time aside to enjoy it fully. And… have pen in hand so you can take notes.

Why many people avoid marketing like the plague

Have you ever cringed at the thought marketing? You’re not alone. Many people avoid marketing like the plague and their business success reflects this fact.

The truth is, marketing is just about everything we do. From blogging, article writing, talking to others at a live event, posting on our Facebook wall, tweeting, creating a short video for YouTube and even talking to a neighbor about what we do.

Another truth is it is much simpler than many people realize, but because of various fears around marketing many entrepreneurs don’t reach their fullest business potential.

Marketing is Simple
There are very simple ways to market and of course, very complex ways. One thing that stops people from reaching their marketing potential is the thought that they have to jump into complex strategies that take hours and hours to implement.

It doesn’t have to be this way at all. As a matter of fact, it can take as little as 10 minutes a day to market. You read right; 10 minutes a day.

To get the most out of your marketing here are a few quick tips.

  • Think in terms of adding value. The more you focus on this the more natural your marketing becomes.
  • Be willing to give your information away. This is an area lots of people cringe at. “Give my information away! Why would I give away what I can sell?”It’s simple; we live in a try before you buy world. With all the “stuff” available your job is to build trust, credibility and visibility with your market. Offering something for nothing is a great way to do this. It should go without saying that whatever you give away should be of extremely high value. Unfortunately, some people don’t realize this. Free doesn’t me garbage.
  • Think in the long-term. If you plan to be around for any length of time you absolutely must think in terms of, “How will what I am doing today impact my long-term position? How will what I am doing serve my market in the long-term? When you have this type of thinking you are sure to be highly successful.

1% or 99%…which are you?

1%. This is just about the percentage of people who buy information products, attend seminars, listen to CDs to learn something who will actually do anything with the material.

I am in the 1%. Why? Because I have a philosophy that has served me well. Whenever I invest in something I will immediately figure out a way to recoup my investment. This simply means I am going to study the information and implement the information.

Will I implement everything all at once? No. But I will do something to gain value from what I purchase and the time invested.

90% of the time I recoup my investment back within a very short period of time. Whether it’s a $10 investment or $10,000, I will do what needs to be done to gain an incredible return. [Read more...]
