Multimedia Powers Up Your Social Media

Today’s featured expert guest blogger is Janet Slack. Janet shares how to power up your social media with multimedia.

Multimedia encompasses any media that isn’t just text. Think audio, video, slideshow presentations, teleseminars, or webinars and you’re thinking multimedia.

Using various types of media with your blog or social media posts gives you many ways to connect with your audience members. People like to consume their information in a range of different ways, and by providing your content in multimedia format, you give your subscribers or followers a choice of how they want to interact with you.

Here are some of the most popular multimedia choices and why you should consider adding them to your social media marketing arsenal.

Audio: Podcasting and Content Downloads

Audio content has really taken off in the age of the iPod, iPhone, Android and tablet. Just about everyone has a portable audio player available in one of their electronics now.

Having your content in audio format makes it easy for people to listen while they’re on the go. It’s especially appealing for people who like to learn, but don’t want to set time aside to read a book.

Instead, they like to listen and learn while they’re on the bus, in their car, walking to lunch or while exercising.  The audio format makes it easy for them to do that.

Video: Letting Them See the Real You

How you appear in video approximates who you are in real life in a way that isn’t available in other media.

When reading text, people often form images of you that just aren’t how you actually are. When you’re on video, however, it’s a lot easier for people to get to know the real you.

The visual connection helps to build the sense of community with your audience.  Your viewer is developing a relationship with you as you really are.  This in turn results in more trust, more sales, more backlinks and more partnership opportunities.

Webinars & Online Slideshow Presentations

Other common forms of multimedia are webinars and online slideshow presentations.

One benefit of both of these types of media is that they help you to establish yourself as an expert in your market.  Both are powerful ways of getting your message across and to help your audience be familiar with your skills and ability to assist them.

Another benefit to using these types of media is that they offer you a stellar opportunity to sell products. Online presentations can build a great deal of trust for audience members and it’s possible to generate significant sales from a well placed and carefully crafted offer.

Multimedia Free or for a Fee

The most basic way to deliver multimedia is in a free online format. Simply encode your audio content in MP3 format or upload your short video content to YouTube or Vimeo and make it available online. Webinar systems will record your presentation for you and SlideShare and Prezi are ways to share your slideshows with your audiences.

A more complex way of delivering your multimedia content would be to charge for it. The revenue generated from video or audio content is often much greater than for the same material in written format.

In order to use multimedia to generate revenue, you’ll need to have a fulfillment system of some sort. You can deliver your content electronically with an autoresponder such as in an online membership program. If you want to deliver physical products, you could burn and mail CDs or DVDs. However, if your website gets significant traffic, you’ll probably need to work with a fulfillment house for production and distribution of the physical products.

Using multimedia with your blog and other social media marketing is one of the best ways to take your business up a level.  Give people the opportunity to interact with you in a variety of different ways and watch them respond with increased trust, connection and sales.

Discover one way to use blogs to market and sell more books

Those who make great money online are those who continually seek opportunities to position their expertise.

An excellent way to do this is with blog tours and guest blogging.

What is a blog tour?

Blog tours became popular by authors who were seeking a more cost effective way to get the word out about a book. In days past a book tour for an author consisted of going from location to location to do readings, signings and hopefully sell a few books.

This has always been a very expensive way to promote books. For many authors it has also been extremely ineffective.

Enter blogs. Somewhere along the lines someone got the idea that rather than simply writing for their own blog, why not do guest appearances.

What was a very mysterious activity as recently as only a few short years ago is now a very common practice. And rather than simply promote books, a tour is now used for promoting a number of different things such as live events, teleseminars, information products and services.

A simple definition of a blog tour is a virtual tour where you stop at a number of blogs and post relevant information.

Participating in a blog tour has replaced the need to make “personal” appearances for many experts.

In the purest sense a blog tour is done over a specific period of time where the expert “visits” several blogs.

A blog owner hosts one stop of the tour unless of course, they have several blogs you are posting on. The best part of all is you can do a tour from literally anywhere in the world as long as you have Internet access.

Some people prefer to do sporadic guest blogging rather than a structured blog tour. In essence guest blogging is exactly as it sounds. You post on a blog as a guest. But, you must get the blog owner’s permission to do this type of posting.

Being a guest blogger is different than simply posting comments about other people’s posts. In essence you are the “star” blogger.

In this lesson you will learn what you can do to make your star shine each and every blog you are a guest of.

Benefits to blog tours and guest blogging

There are a number of fabulous benefits to either. You definitely increase your visibility and credibility. Both allow you to create a buzz about a book, event, or telseminar to name just a few things.

Without a doubt your writings will be viewed by new eyeballs. This is exactly what you want.

When done right, you are able to reach more of your target market. The reason you want to be clear on who your market is and who is reading the blog you are going to post on is for increased reach with the best market.

There’s no point in writing for blogs that are not viewed by those who are interested in what you have to say and offer.

Guest blogging opens up opportunities for potential joint venture relationships with the blog owner. What better way to get your foot in the door than to do a stellar job with your guest blog appearance?

Search engines love blogs and when you use the right keywords you are creating incredible opportunities for better SEO.

In addition, you can increase your own opt in subscribers if you do have a link in your bio at the end of your post.

Do You Have a Social Marketing Plan? from featured guest blogger – Denise Wakeman

Something I have learned about serving my market is this; I don’t have all the answers, but I do know where to find the answers. Although I know a ton about building a business online, I know there are colleagues who have expertise in areas that will definitely benefit my readers, customers, friends, and connections.

One such person is my friend and colleague, Denise Wakeman. A few days ago we had the opportunity to share time at Brendon Burchard’s Experts Academy in San Jose, California. It was there I asked Denise to share information on social marketing. Without hesitation she agreed.

She is the first of many experts who will be a featured guest blogger for The Marketing Mindset. In the coming months you will hear other top experts.

Today, Denise Wakeman shares insights into the importance of having a social marketing plan.

Building a visible presence on the web takes not only consistent action, it also requires that you are constant…constant with your content production on all platforms.

You know, if somebody lands on a site that has not been updated in a few weeks or months, it’s like going into a shop with no stuff on the shelves, dirt on the floor and broken windows.

In order to stay constant, what do you do? You need to start with a plan. If you’re haphazard about your activity it shows. So here are a couple of things to think about when developing your plan:

What is your message?

Who do you serve?

What do you want them to know about you and your business?

Once you have those questions answered you create a schedule and plot out how you’re going to educate, entertain, and engage your community with your content.

You need to schedule time for your blogging and social media activity. So get a calendar and mark off blogging and social marketing time every week. Set aside dates and times. Schedule two to threes times per week for posting on your blogs. The indisputable fact is, the more you post, the more traffic you’ll get. Then also schedule time to read and comment on other blogs in your niche, so you stay up to date with what’s going on in your industry.

So, what goes on your blog? What goes on Twitter? What goes on Facebook? This is where your editorial calendar comes in. Debbie Weil, in her presentation for Blogging Success Summit, pointed out lessons we can learn from Whole Foods about how they organize their content:

  • Twitter for real time alerts
  • Facebook for less time sensitive news
  • Blog for longer, evergreen content

From my perspective, the information that goes on your blog is the deeper, more intimate content that enables your reader to really get to know you, what you stand for and how you serve them.

I often hear people always are talking about time — that they don’t have enough time to do all this blogging and social media stuff. And yes, if you want to build a powerful, visible presence on the Web, there are many things that you need to do. But if you plan it out, you and your team can get it done without it taking up your entire day.

Visibility-plan

Start with a half an hour day. Three days a week, write blog posts. Two days a week read articles on other sites and repurpose blog posts into other formats so you can leverage your content on other platforms. Automate what you can and what makes sense to save time.

The bottom line…you’ve got to have a plan for your content so you stay consistent and constant and can be found by your ideal client.

Recently I did a search for “editorial calendars.” Here are a few sites that offer free calendar templates you can download – take your pick:

Blog Tours – A great way to generate a 3rd party endorsement

There’s nothing better than a 3rd party endorsement. Most people think of a 3rd party endorsement as someone telling someone else how good you are at what you do.

A very underutilized 3rd party endorsement strategy is when you guest blogger. In essence, this is where the blog owner is telling their readers, “This person is someone I believe has something valuable to say.”
The fact is, if the blog owner doesn’t think you’re someone they want to introduce to their market you likely won’t get opportunities to be their guest blogger.

There are ample opportunities available. You can blog for one blog owner once. You can blog more than once for the same blog owner or you can go all out and do a blog tour.

Here’s a recent post of mine that appeared on the Women Speaker Association blog in which I was the featured blogger. Click here to read full post.

Yet another one is at Internet Home Business BlogClick here to read full post. Several experts were invited to contribute to the topic of How To Create Awesome Blog Content – Writing Tips From The Pros.

Each has a different focus based on the blog and topic.

As you begin pursuing guest blogging opportunities you may have to be the one to approach blog owners. When you build visibility online blog owners will approach you. The more content you have published online the more opportunities seem to magically appear.

I guarantee you, it’s by far one of the best marketing strategies around.

The Truth about Building An Opt In Subscriber List

“I don’t have a list! What do I do?”

I have been asked this question countless times. My answer is always the same; start right where you are.

I’ve been making my living (and a great one at that) on the Internet for many years now. But it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when I made no money at all online.

The two primary reasons were no market reach and no subscribers. Today I have both. But each took time to build. I had to be willing to start where I was.

The challenge many people have is rather than putting consistent effort into both market reach and building a list they procrastinate.

Or they get sidetracked with activities that are not going to monetize their business. Building a successful business by way of the internet is a discipline. Don’t ever believe for a minute it is not. It takes work, commitment, dedication and focus. Anyone who tells you otherwise is likely not making money online. Simple as that.

One of the most important things you have to consistently do is build your list of people who are interested in you and your information. In the past we were somewhat limited in how we could do this. Today, there are countless ways to build a list.

1. A traditional opt in subscriber list through 1SC, aWeber, Infusionsoft, Constant Contact, GetResponse or any number of providers. Keep the long-term in mind as you begin to build your list. Some people look for all the free service providers. Free may not be in your best interest based on your growth projections.

2. Feedblitz or FeedBurner via your blog. Both allow you to build a list of readers who are requesting to receive you posts as you blog. Every time you post on your blog those who have subscribed by way of the RSS feed will get your post delivered into their email inbox.

3. Friends on Facebook. Building a friend’s list is a great idea but not if all you are going to do is market to them. For everyone to get the most value you need to be a “real” personality on Facebook. However, be aware that not everyone is who they say they are. Use discretion with how much information you share.

4. Followers on Twitter. Some people swear by Twitter while others think it is a complete waste of time. If you are only posting promotional information you are not creating value for others. Plan out your tweets to create the most value. You can use something like HootSuite to schedule out your tweets. This way you spend a few minutes posting tweets that will show up throughout the day rather than all at once.

5. Connections on LinkedIn. I really like LinkedIn due to the quality of professional relationships I can build. The key to success is to post high value information. There are some people who are doing no more than promoting their products and services. This is NOT the way to get the most out of LinkedIn. Contribute to conversations; post information you find from other experts that would be of interest to group members, post questions, and always think in terms of how to build relationships.

6. Subscribers on YouTube. The more quality videos you post the more subscribers you will get. Make sure to include keywords in the title of your video and throughout the description. This makes it easier for people who are interested in your content to find you.

7. Article marketing. This is one of the most effective ways to build your expert status as well as your opt in subscriber list. At the end of your article include a resource box that has some type of high value giveaway. When giving information away think in terms of going above and beyond expectations.

These are only a few of the many ways you can build a following of people who enjoy, and look forward to, your information.

When you’re viewed as a viable resource people will visit your blog and website. Make sure you have a way for them to subscribe to something when they do stop by your blog and website.

However, in order to build a strong following you have to go above and beyond the norm. In years past it was a lot easier to get people to subscribe to something than it is today.

Nowadays your information has to be stellar from the start.

The challenge many people have is they are so fearful of giving away content thinkng that if they give stuff away people won’t have a need to buy their information. The opposite is true. When you provide incredible free content people are more inclined to buy from you when you have offers.

But again, your information has to be stellar. Take my 3 part video series – How to Make Money with Teleseminars. This is something I could easily charge for, but I prefer to give it away. Regardless of whether someone invests in my other information or not they have received incredible value from the complimentary information.

Want to see what I mean? Why not subscribe  to the FREE Video Series? Not only will you receive incredible information you can also see what I mean by stellar information. Click here to subscribe.

Not sure what to give away? Here are a few recommendations.

  • Video series
  • MP3 files
  • eReports
  • eBooks
  • Teleseminars
  • Webinars

It’s amazing how stingy people are with their free information. They seem to think somehow people will magically find them, join their list and suddenly sales appear. It doesn’t happen this way at all.

The fact is, those who are doing great online are those who are constantly providing great information. Free information.

What is your standard practice? Do you constantly offer great information to your market or are you still thinking about that first freebie you will offer?

If you’re still thinking about what to give away isn’t it time to get off the dime and put something to market? I daresay it is.

What do you do to build your list? What is the most effective method you have used?

Why not share this with others by retweeting and forwarding it to your FB friends, LinkedIn connections and others who would benefit?

What if you really don’t need social media marketing?

If you haven’t heard how important social media is in your overall marketing you likely have not been paying attention. To not incorporate social media into your promotional activity is a huge mistake.

However, you need to think through why you are using social media as well as what outcome you desire.

The really amazing thing about social media marketing is how rapidly it is growing. This can be a major challenge for many. Trying to keep up can drive even the sanest man or woman a bit crazy.

Over the last few years an incredibly powerful industry cropped up with virtual assistants, project managers, consultants, speakers, authors and content experts who assist business owners at all levels with their social media marketing needs.

Another area that is growing in leaps and bounds are the DIY (do it yourself) entrepreneurs who may prefer to do their own social media marketing because it is so fascinating to them or they are simply not in a position to hire someone.

Regardless of what level of involvement you have you do need to keep up on some degree of information. For example, lots of people think of social media in terms of only their computer when in fact iPhones and other such devices allow interaction virtually any time, any place.

To help with this I found a blog with 70 Plus Free iPhone Apps for Social Media Mavens. Click here to access.

Sean Something else I have for you to take your Social Network knowledge to an incredibly high level is a free webinar with two leading experts, Sean Malarkey and Lewis Howes.

Both are recognized around the globe for their knowledge, expertise and easy to apply strategies to give you optimal results for your efforts. Lewis Howes is the author of LinkedWorking that teaches individuals how to generate revenues and success using LinkedIn.

Article Marketing – Is Your Panic Setting In?

Dust Now that the dust has settled with the recent Google announcement there are new levels of dialogue about what this means.

For some it’s, “Business as usual” while others have to rethink just about every bit of information they put to market.

Those who have produced quality information all along have nothing to worry about. Those who have cranked out garbage are fast falling off the article marketing cliff.

Panic May Set In
Many consultants routinely recommended to their clients to use article marketing as a part of their promotional efforts. Some consultants are in a panic because now they have to come up with something else to recommend to their clients. Others are not concerned at all due to always emphasizing quality and relevance when recommending their clients use article marketing in their mix.

Here’s the deal; anything that improves the quality of information people are developing (and limits the garbage) is a very good thing. Thumbs up to Google.

It Becomes Obsolete
Something that’s important to keep in mind with this change (and many others we have already experienced and will experience in the future) is this… a recommendation to our clients today may be obsolete at some point in the future. We don’t have a crystal ball we can peer into.

However, we can always focus on quality, value and integrity. When we do this all is well in the world.

Flexibility is essential for virtually anyone who is using the Internet to market their business. The rules are constantly changing and there’s not a lot we can do about this. What we can do is keep the right perspective. Additionally, we can strive to ALWAYS deliver excellence.

Bottom line; the recent Google change is a very good thing for anyone who has been producing great content all along.

What are you thoughts on content quality? Comments welcome below.
